About James

James Richards makes music to live, but not for a living. He lends his voice and multi-instrumental talents to campfire sing-alongs, benefit concerts, conferences, house parties, and places of worship. A classically trained singer steeped in "Blue Ridge certified acousticfunkgrass," James draws inspiration from Nina Simone, Otis Redding, and Peter Gabriel. He has shared stages with artists like Peggy Seeger, Ellis Paul, and David Lamotte.

Settled in Atlanta with his family, after stints in Brooklyn and Asheville, NC, James has performed at venues like Eddie's Attic, Venkman's, the Red Light Cafe, and the Hard Rock Cafe. In New York, he played Joe's Pub, Webster Hall, the Bitter End, and Sunny's Bar, to name a few. James volunteers with Musicians on Call, bringing the healing power of music to hospitals.

James grew up on a farm in Paris, KY, where he spent mornings feeding the cows—unless he found a way out of it.
